Kaduthuruthy: In the 13th ward of Velloor Panchayat, Pathumma, an elderly woman with no children or spouse, found herself alone and helpless after a fall caused by continuous heavy rain and age-related weakness. She suffered a hip fracture and had no one to care for her.
Sister Ancy, a palliative nurse at Arunoottimangalam Hospital, was informed of Pathumma’s condition by ASHA worker Shamla. The information was then relayed to Panchayat Member Shiny Saju, who immediately contacted the Nithya Sahayakan Trust’s Amma Veedu shelter home.
Trust President Anil Joseph and Secretary Sindhu visited Pathumma and assessed her condition. With the support of Panchayat Member Shiny Saju, ASHA worker Shamla, and local residents, Pathumma was officially entrusted to Amma Veedu, where she now lives as part of a caring community of mothers.
This act of compassion coincided with Anil Joseph’s 59th birthday on May 31, making the day especially meaningful for everyone involved.
The handover and care initiative were supported by Chackochen Kuryanthadam, Thomas Anchambil, Jaison Palayil, El Sam Pallattuparambil, Ruby Kuryanthadam, Claramma Babu, Anjelo, and Ananya Rajesh.
